Can you bring your partner as a dependent on your Cyprus student visa?
Updated: 27th December 2024

Is Cyprus Student Spouse Dependent Visa Possible?
Unfortunately, No.
You can’t bring your spouse on a dependent visa if you are a student in Cyprus. It would be great if you could, but Cyprus doesn’t allow dependent visas for international students.
When you apply for a student visa to study in Cyprus, the primary purpose of this visa is to allow you to live in Cyprus and pursue your education.
You are not legally allowed to do a full-time job in Cyprus as a student, which simply mean you cannot support your dependent just on a part time job.
So, what are the options?
Bring your spouse/partner on a student visa
Both of you can apply for a student visa and come to Cyprus together.
If you don’t want that, you can apply for yourself, come to Cyprus, get settled, and bring your partner later on a student visa.
That way you could be together in Cyprus.
You can bring your partner on a Work Visa in Cyprus
If your spouse has a good academic background, then you can bring them on a student visa, but if they haven’t completed their higher secondary education, a student visa mightn’t be applicable for them.
In that case, you can bring your spouse on a working visa.
If your wife is experienced in some field, she can apply for a job in that field related companies.
If that’s not possible, you can apply for your partner on a housemaid visa.
Here is how you do that.
- Firstly, you will have to find an employer. Meaning, you will need someone to employ your wife. If you have made friends with some Cypriot people, they can help you with that.
- The employer has to file an application in the Labor Office for wanting a housemaid.
- When the application gets approved, they can provide your wife with a visa.
- When she gets the visa, she can come to Cyprus.
Note:
This process is not as simple as it seems. It can take up to 3 months to complete.
It’s not just about going to the labor office and filling out a form—there’s much more involved. And even after all that, there’s no guarantee you will get the visa.
A housemaid is usually bound to stay in the employer’s house. If your room/flat is near the employer’s house, your wife can come and live with you.
But, if it’s far, you will have to find a room near the employer’s home.
You can apply for a Short-Term Visitor Visa
This allows your partner to visit you temporarily but not live permanently in Cyprus.
Practical Example
Let’s imagine Priya, a student from India, moving to Cyprus to pursue her Master’s degree.
She wants her husband, Raj, to join her. Since Raj cannot come as a dependent on Priya’s student visa, they are exploring other options.
Raj applies for a short-term visitor visa to stay with Priya for a few months.
During this time, he looks for a job and later applies for a work visa, allowing him to stay longer in Cyprus.
He might have to return to India for a couple of days to apply for a work visa in Cyprus if he gets an job offer from a company in Cyprus.
Apply work visa to other European Countries
If you couldn’t bring your partner to Cyprus, you guys could apply for a work visa to other European countries.
Both of you can apply for work permits, and once received, you can return back to your country and apply for a work visa.
Even if one of you got the visa, you guys could be together in the future in Europe, one being on a Work Visa and another on a Dependent Visa.
If both of you got the visa, then you guys are super lucky.
Conclusion
Bringing your partner as a dependent on your Cyprus student visa is usually not allowed and can be complicated. However, other visa options, like visitor or work visas, might be a way for your partner to join you. Plan carefully and explore all options to make the process easier.
